So if you have a regular stock engine on your 4th gen civic, is it worth to swap it to the D16z6 VTEC? There isn't a whole lot of difference in HP. I mean, with the money you put in to performance parts, you can run just as fast as the D16z6 VTEC motor i bet.

And so if the D16z6 is almost the same as the ZC motor only being diff. is DOHC And SOHC....there is only a 10 HP difference. I could probably spend the same amount of $ to make it faster than to have put in a ZC motor.

What do you all think of this?

wow where to begin...how bout this il list the motors and specs

    D16A6- 1.6L SOHC non-vtec-108 hp
    D16Z6- 1.6L SOHC VTEC 125hp
    D16Y8- 1.6L SOHC VTEC 127hp
    ZC- 1.6L DOHC NON-VTEC-~130-135hp

well the zc is about 500-700 shipped for the engine, which would make you a lot faster than adding a intake, header or exhaust to the D16a6.

but...you can do what is know as a mini-me which is taking the D16Z6 or D16Y8 head and putting it onto the D16a6 block, which will not only add vtec but raise the compression up a bit, nothing crazy probably about .1-.3 at the most. this will probably run you about 250 for the head and the ECU, just wire it yourself, and have 250 left over for who knows what...

I was thinking of going an all out d16a6 when i get my new crx, but it will be 3000 for a complete built d16a6 which will probably only get me in the low 13's high 12's if im lucky...but it will still be the stock engine in a way, completely differnt from what happens now, but anyways...i hoped this helped you out a bit...

    Exclamation

The stock A6 is a good motor, they make excellent power and a good even torque band. The Z6/Y8 motors are about the same till their vtec kicks in, thats where there power climes above that of the A6. ZC's are nice if you know how to care for one and have a good ZC to start with not some hand grenade wink (but most are good from what i've seen).

My stock A6 has over 152k on it and still runs pretty damn good. If it goes I might build a SOHC vtec just to have a motor with less miles and a little more topend power (even though i'd build the motor for better torque output where possible). Or build an A6 that redlines around 8000 or 9000 rpms hehe. If i was gonna go twin cam, i'd get a B18 outta a LS teg. 140hp but alot more torque to boot, cheap and parts are everywhere for B-series engines. Of course this is all my opinion it is just to give you a clue hehe.

If your stock A6 runs good then it would be easy to mod it the the level of Z6/Y8. If you pick up a Z6/Y8 you can easily mod one of those to surpass a ZC in output. And if you go all the way and get a ZC, dump a little into that and your almost in B16 territory. You kinda see how it works. A depends on how fast you wanna go for how much.

Given the options, I'd go the B18 too - either VTEC or non-VTEC. Non VTEC + turbo = win smile

Other than that, ZC would be my choice - fully worked you can get 200+ bhp in full Mugen trim NA - and for a fraction of the cost you can turbo one and get similar figures smile

    Red face

Here is my saying for the day: "Speed costs money...how fast do you want to go?"

hehe...WOULDN'T YOU LIKE TO KNOW HAHAHAHA!!!

ok in all seriousness, what I mean is how ZC use a variety of parts from other honda models to keep them running. Like maybe you can use some parts off a older integra, other parts off a civic etc. Like when things break such as a water pump or head gasket. Its not like you can walk into a autoparts store and ask for ZC parts ya know? wink

There was a web page someplace that told you what parts ZC's liked off US spec cars. But there are some people i've met who want ZC's and they can barely change their oil. You probaly see my point now hehe.

I've got a page like that.... smile
    http://www.geocities.com/teampimport...s/zcparts.html

The ZC is a smorgasborg of parts off the teg and civic like habib said.

Taking care of the zc is easy as long as you know what parts to look for. Sometimes unforseen things happen like in my case with the head gasket. frown
